Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Limited (BRBCL) is a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd. in JV with Indian Railways with equity participation of 74 % and 26 % respectively. JV Agreement was signed on 06.11.2007 and the company was incorporated on 22.11.2007. BRBCL is presently setting up a 1000 MW (4 x 250 MW) thermal power plant at Nabinagar in the name of Nabinagar Thermal Power Project (NTPP), Distt. Aurangabad, Bihar. Project site is situated on State highway which is 25 km south of NH-2 from Barun, 9 Km from ‘Nabinagar Road’ Railway Station and 100 Km from Gaya Airport. Water requirement for the project is 60 cusec which is allocated from upper stream of Sone River (Indrapuri Barrage). Coal requirement for the project is 5 MTPA. The coal linkage of 5 MTPA has been accorded from Pachra & Pachra south block, North Karnpura coalfields of CCL which is approx. 215km from project site. The beneficiaries for the power generated from NTPP are : Indian Railways - 90 % and Bihar State - 10 %. PPA has been signed with both of the beneficiaries.

Performance Highlights

BRBCL’s performance, achievements, and operational highlights for the financial year in March 2025. The station achieved its highest-ever generation of 7081.02 MU, surpassing the previous year’s 6944.429 MU, though slightly below the target of 7600 MU. Key operational metrics such as Station DC (92.88%), Availability Factor (92.98%), and Specific Oil Consumption (0.206 ml/kWh) reflect strong performance, while PLF stood at 80.83%. Ash utilization improved significantly to 80.09%, and domestic coal receipt reached a record 52.89 LMT.

Operational earnings totaled ₹2693.5 lakhs, with major contributions from FRP (₹1461 lakhs), Ancillary Services (₹708 lakhs), and IEX/PEX (₹168 lakhs). The station faced 11 outages across various units due to technical faults like cable issues, motor trips, and generator problems. BRBCL’s credit rating was upgraded from AA– to AA+ by ICRA, and it achieved a PEM score of 83.12%, ranking 5th among NTPC stations. Capex utilization stood at ₹325.27 crores, and initiatives like AGC and DAM bidding added to revenue and operational flexibility.

The station received multiple awards, including Platinum and Diamond awards at GMF Golden Petal Awards 2024, a Green Leaf Environment Award, and recognition for water management and occupational health and safety. Safety initiatives included mock drills with SDRF and BFS, installation of portable safety control rooms, and observance of National Safety and Fire Safety Weeks. In C&M, 931 purchase orders worth ₹467.33 crores were placed, and BRBCL onboarded all four TReDS platforms.

Erection activities saw 70% completion of FGD works, chimney lining for all units, and progress in gypsum and crusher house installations. O&M improvements included a 49% reduction in demurrage hours, AGC logic implementation, and commissioning of dissolved gas analysis systems. Unit #2 remained BTL-free for 598 days, and a record 76 dry ash bulkers were loaded in a single day. Overall, the document reflects BRBCL’s strong operational performance, strategic advancements, and commitment to safety and sustainability during FY 2024–25.
